Niger Pastors Seek Unity

By Jon Cassel
CBN Regional Director for French-Speaking Africa

Conference

PastorsCBN WorldReach recently sponsored a national pastors’ conference in the capital city of Niger, Niamey. More than 75 pastors attended from all over the country. It was the first non-denominational national pastors’ conference in recent memory.

The conference was fully funded by CBN WorldReach. Arrangements were made for the transportation, food and lodging, as well as the organization of the event by CBN national director for Niger, Yacouba Seydou.

The theme of the gathering was unity, building on the story of the tower of Babel in Genesis 11. There were three speakers: one from Burkina Faso, one from Nigeria and another chosen by CBN from America.

A speakerCBN has only been active in Niger since August of 2005 so the CBN ministries were introduced.Peter Darg, Yacouba Seydou and Jon Cassel made this presentation.

Peter and I were pleased to receive many positive comments on The Club 700, seen now on the national station.

The conference was held at an opportune time as many pastors were deeply thankful for the teachings and discussions of unity in the church, which has sadly been missing in Niger church history.

Pastor Daniel Ibrahim of Maradi commented: “I was touched to be invited to the conference and appreciated the theme because the need for unity in the Niger church is great. Satan uses the lack of unity to deter the church.”

PastorsPastor Ahmed Baye of Niamey also attended. “My thanks for the seminar,” he said. “I was deeply touched by the teachings on unity. This is not the first time I have been exposed to these teachings but this conference was extremely practical. I now understand the advantage of unity. We now have to live it.”

“Thanks to CBN for the first interdenominational seminar here in Niamey,” said Pastor Adamou Aboubaka of Maradi. “I am delighted as my faith has been fortified. It has built up the church and established unity within the church as in New Testament days.”

CBN national director Yacouba Seydou called for a follow-up conference.

“This conference is making history. We have recently installed new officers to represent the national church organization (AMEEN) and their attendance has brought a healing that will now go home with them to impact their churches and spread across the land. We need another conference,” said Seydou.
