Of the 803 patients who
underwent treatment in the three days of the Soweto Medical Mission, 137
recorded commitments to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. There was one rededication
and 181 were already Christians. 97 were children under 7 years of age
and our team of children's workers who dressed up in clowns' outfits entertained
them and ministered.
Dr Jim from the USA gave his consultation time freely and the mission
has had the effect of encouraging the personnel of our WorldReach Center
in the Dlamini Squatter Camp within Soweto. On the day after the mission
ended people still flocked to the school where the mission was held,
because they had heard about "good doctors and good medicines".
Some came from more than 20 kilometers away and have asked for more
clinics of this nature.
The huge task of follow-up has begun, including home-based care for
advanced HIV positive patients.
